The ability of plants and food plots to utilize the nutrients in the soil is directly correlated to the pH of the soil. The pH also contributes to the palatability of each plant species within the plot. Acidic soils bind the available nutrients and render them less beneficial. Soil tests are a crucial ingredient for every food plot program. We take care to gather multiple samples throughout the plot to ensure an accurate representation of the entire plot is submitted.
Whitetails will naturally find and begin to utilize any quality food source. If the whitetail population is too large for the plot size, or the quality of natural browse is weak, over browsing will unfortunately happen. The ability to diagnose this problem is an important part of defining why a plot may have stunted growth. Evey plot should utilize exclusion cages to compare the unimpeded growth inside the cage to that on the outside. Each plot that we work on will use exclusion cages for this purpose.
The goal of any food plot program is to provide whitetails and other wildlife with supplemental food and forage throughout the year. Much of the animals' regular nutrition comes from naturally occurring elements. Strengthening their nutrient uptake through the establishment of food plots gives them the highest likelihood of reaching their full potential. Weed competition and the depletion of soil nutrients are the two enemies of a maintaining a sustainable plot, with the necessary nutrition for maximum potential. We commit to monitoring food plots and battling these problems under the direction of our customers.
